Freedom Holding Corp. has begun construction of a data center

Freedom Holding Corp. began construction of the data center Freedom Cloud in the special economic zone “Park of Innovative Technologies” (FEZ PIT “Alatau”). This is reported by the correspondent of “Kursiv”.

It is noted that the project is aimed at strengthening the technological sovereignty of the country and increasing its attractiveness for the world’s leading IT-companies. The data center will create an alternative transit channel for data transmission between Europe and China through Kazakhstan.

The project will be located on an area of 2.5 hectares. Two stages of construction will require an investment of 75 billion tenge. Another 100 billion tenge will be required for the purchase of equipment, making the total investment in the data center 175 billion tenge.

The project will accommodate 480 special cabinets for servers (racks), each of which can withstand up to 15 kW. The value is comparable to 7-10 electric kettles or 5-7 gaming computers.

The usable IT capacity of the center will be 7.2 MW (energy to run the servers), and the total power consumption will be 13 MW, including cooling and support. This is comparable to the consumption of a small city.

“The data center will not just be part of a large data storage infrastructure, it will ensure our technological sovereignty, make Kazakhstan more attractive to international IT companies, and provide new jobs and opportunities for our citizens,” said Timur Turlov, CEO of Freedom Holding Corp.

He also noted that the holding has ambitious plans to develop similar facilities in other regions of the country.

At the moment, the holding has 7 data processing centers (DPCs) in different regions of Kazakhstan. In addition, it is planned to expand its data center in Karaganda and build two additional centers in Almaty and Astana.
