Freedom Yatırım Becomes First Foreign Brokerage in 34 Years to Receive Broad License in Türkiye

Freedom Holding Corp. has reached another milestone in its expansion in Türkiye: Freedom Yatırım has received a broad brokerage license from the local regulator, becoming the first foreign brokerage company in 34 years to obtain such a status in the country. The license will allow the holding company to develop both its banking and brokerage businesses in Türkiye, laying the foundation for its own digital financial ecosystem in the market.

Freedom Holding Corp.’s new ecosystem company, Freedom Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş., became the first foreign brokerage firm since 1992 to receive a license from Türkiye’s Capital Markets Board (CMB). The status gives Freedom access to the Turkish capital market and creates a foundation for integrating the holding company’s brokerage and banking services into a single digital ecosystem.

What Is Freedom Yatırım?

Freedom Yatırım is a Turkish brokerage company operating as part of Freedom Holding Corp. through its wholly owned subsidiary Freedom Finansal Hizmetler A.Ş. It was established in January 2025 following approval from the CMB.

The company will develop investment services for Turkish clients using Freedom’s existing infrastructure. One of the key elements of this infrastructure is TraderNet, the group’s proprietary trading platform, which is used across several markets.

What the CMB License Provides

The broad brokerage license issued to Freedom Yatırım by Türkiye’s Capital Markets Board is an official authorization to conduct regulated capital-markets activities. It enables Freedom Yatırım to provide a comprehensive range of brokerage services, including transactions involving instruments traded on Turkish and international capital markets, as well as access to local market infrastructure.

For Freedom Yatırım, receiving the license represents more than the formal completion of a regulatory process: it allows the company to move toward full-scale operations in Türkiye’s capital market. The company has already integrated its systems with Borsa İstanbul and is now preparing to launch operations.

The broad license also creates a foundation for the further development of the company’s investment services. Brokerage activities in Türkiye are subject to CMB requirements covering capital adequacy, corporate governance, internal procedures, reporting and investor protection.

Connecting Türkiye With Global Markets

Through Freedom Yatırım, the ecosystem plans to give investors in Türkiye access to global investment opportunities while simultaneously providing Freedom Holding Corp.’s international client base with access to Turkish market instruments.

Türkiye has developed a large and increasingly sophisticated investor base, while interest in diversifying investments across different markets and asset classes continues to grow. We see a strong opportunity to combine Freedom’s international brokerage expertise with a deep understanding of the local market,” said Vusal Mammadov, Chief Advisor to the Board of Directors of Freedom Yatırım.

When Will the New Ecosystem Launch in Türkiye?

The brokerage business will become part of Freedom Holding Corp.’s broader project in Türkiye. In July, the holding company completed the acquisition of a 99.32% stake in Turkish Bank A.Ş., after which the financial institution was renamed Freedom Bank A.Ş.

Together, Freedom Bank and Freedom Yatırım are expected to form the foundation of the holding company’s Turkish ecosystem. The group plans to integrate banking, brokerage, investment and insurance products into the ecosystem and, at a later stage, complement them with non-financial and lifestyle services.

Freedom Holding Corp. founder and CEO Timur Turlov has said that the group will draw on its experience in Kazakhstan when building the Turkish ecosystem, where Freedom SuperApp combines banking services, investments and everyday digital services.

In Türkiye, we plan to adapt this model to the needs of the local market, gradually bringing banking, brokerage and other financial services together with lifestyle services in a single seamless digital environment,” Timur Turlov said.

The Bank’s Management Team

Following completion of the transaction, Freedom Holding Corp. partner Vladimir Pochekuev became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Freedom Bank A.Ş. According to Pochekuev, combining the group’s financial scale, brokerage expertise and technology with local knowledge should help Freedom establish a sustainable long-term presence in Türkiye’s financial market.

Our financial scale, brokerage expertise and technological capabilities provide a strong foundation for long-term investment in Türkiye,” Pochekuev said.

The bank’s board also includes Timur Turlov and three Turkish professionals with experience at PASHA Bank Türkiye: Hikmet Cenk Eynehan, Furkan Evranos and Ayşe Hale Yıldırım.
